Potential Hospital Merger, Memorial Hermann - Baylor, Scott, and White
Two hospital giants, Memorial Hermann and Baylor, Scott, and White may merge to create the nation’s fifth largest health care provider.
Houston may see negative impacts on jobs.
Memorial Hermann is Houston’s third largest employer, analysts said, but it’s not a driver of the Houston economy like the University of Texas’ MD Anderson Cancer Center, a research-driven institution. MD Anderson brings millions of research dollars into the Houston economy and attracts scientists from around the world who bring their own research funding, as sell as companies that want to commercialize that research.
The merger is not yet set in stone, and Memorial Hermann states it has no plans to close any facilities.
